Our family LOVES the air fryer for quick, delicious meals. Find that perfect cook time and temperature combination is the key for making meat, seafood, chicken, vegetables and even frozen foods and desserts yummy every time.

Whether you’re brand new to cooking with an air fryer or more of a seasoned pro, this helpful cheat sheet was designed with that in mind. Just print it out and put it on the fridge or tape it to the inside of your pantry or spice cabinet for easy reference.

There are so many fantastic air fryer recipes, and I was honestly blown away the first time I used one. Not only was it so simple to use, but I was able to make pretty much any item using one! The possibilities are endless and it’s become my favorite kitchen appliance.

What’s so great about air fryers?

If you haven’t spent much time cooking with an air fryer, you’re in for a treat. Not only do air fryers cook your food faster than a conventional oven, but they can also make food more healthy.

Unlike a traditional deep fryer that uses a ton of hot oil, air frying is much healthier than deep frying. No heavy oil needed! Just spray or toss the food you’re cooking in light oil and you’re good to go.

How much faster does an air fryer cook than a regular oven?

Air fryers cook food significantly faster than a traditional oven. By using super convection with a strong fan blowing heat into the food, it can take only about half the time to make a delicious dish! Air fryers are awesome for families who need meals made in less time.

How do I calculate cooking times for an air fryer?

The general rule of thumb for converting an oven recipe to air frying is to reduce the temperature by 25°F and cut cooking time by about 20-25%. Keep in mind that cook times can vary by what you’re cooking as well as the size and power of the air fryer you own.

Be sure to flip or rotate the items in the air fryer baskets halfway through cooking (or shake the basket). If you’re concerned items might overcook or become too crispy, just take a peek inside the air fryer and make sure nothing looks too brown.

Don’t forget the air fryer accessories!

These reusable silicone liners are amazing and make cleanup so much easier. You can also snag perforated parchment liners too. Be sure you choose the right shape and size for your air fryer, as there are multiple options.

Air fryers get very hot, so don’t risk burning your fingers. Grab a pair of silicone tip tongs to help grab hot food that will need to be turned. I recommend being sure you have ones with a silicone tip so you don’t risk scratching and damaging the air fryer baskets.

Air Fryer Cooking Tips

This free printable air fryer cooking times cheat sheet is only one piece of the equation for a perfect air fryer meal. Here are some of the best tips for the cooking process to help your recipe turn out right each time:

Preheat the air fryer before adding your ingredients. Think of it as the same way you would when approaching cooking with a traditional oven, which always requires preheating!

If your air fryer doesn’t have a preheat setting, that’s ok! The physical preheat setting just alerts you when it’s done. Just turn it on to the temperature you need and let it heat up for 4-5 minutes before you start cooking.

Note: very rarely you might have a recipe that calls for a cold start, meaning don’t preheat. It will clearly tell you this!

Don’t overcrowd the basket. In order for the food to cook evenly and correctly, hot air has to be able to easily circulate. Only add food to the basket in one single layer, being sure to leave a little space between pieces!

It can feel tempting to dump everything into the basket if you have room, but your food will turn out much better if you cook the dish in batches instead. Be sure not to overfill the air fryer basket to also avoid damaging the heating element.

Shake the basket halfway through cooking (or physically flip the food over). Most recipes will mention that you need to do this, as it helps ensure that the food is cooked evenly. This also helps to make sure that food that you want to crisp up (like chicken) is crispy on all sides.

Either shake the basket well when you’ve reached the halfway point of cook time, or use your silicone tongs or a spatula to turn the food over.

Use a meat thermometer if cooking meat. Cook times can vary slightly depending on the size of the food you’re cooking as well as the size and power of the air fryer you own. Be sure that your food is cooked by following USDA guidelines for safe minimum internal temperature for seafood, beef, pork and poultry.

If you’re worried about your meat getting too crispy or overdone, just open up the air fryer and take a peek. If it’s getting too brown, shake the basket or flip the item.
