How to Make July 4th Chocolate Bark
This patriotic chocolate bark recipe is simple and easy to make any time of the year, but especially for the 4th of July and Memorial Day!
Start by preparing your baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
Next, begin melting the semi-sweet chocolate morsels. You can do this in a microwave in 30-second bursts, stirring between each 20-25 seconds until smooth. The chocolate will continue to melt in between sessions, which is why thoroughly stirring it is so important.
Pour the melted semi-sweet chocolate onto the prepared tray, spreading it into an even layer using a spatula. Allow this layer to harden completely at room temperature.
Melt the white chocolate morsels using the same method as before. Once melted, pour it over the hardened semi-sweet chocolate layer to create the white chocolate layer. Let this white chocolate layer harden completely before proceeding.
Next, melt the red, white, and blue candy melts separately. You can use small piping bags or a spoon to drizzle each color over the hardened white chocolate layer.
Use a toothpick to swirl the colors gently, creating a marbled effect. Do this while the candy is still melted, before it hardens, to ensure a smooth pattern.
Sprinkle the red, white, and blue star sprinkles and M&Ms over the top while the candy melts are still slightly soft to ensure they stick.
Allow the entire tray to harden completely in the refrigerator (15-30 minutes).
Once fully set, lift the bark out of the tray using the edges of the parchment paper and break it into pieces by hand.
Your patriotic chocolate bark is ready to be served! Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature or in the fridge.
Tips for the Best 4th of July Chocolate Bark
One of my favorite parts about this recipe is that it’s so easy and no bake, which means no oven or stove top heating up your already hot home during the summer. However, there are a few tips I recommend for the best chocolate bark possible.
First, for best results, use good-quality chocolate chips and candy melts. The bark isn’t as tasty with cheaper chocolate, and having a tasty dessert is kind of the whole point, right?
While you might be in a hurry, resist the urge to refrigerate the milk chocolate layer. I learned the hard way that it becomes much harden to spread the melted white chocolate on top if the milk chocolate layer and pan are cold.
Finally, have all of your ingredients ready to go in separate bowls before getting started. This helps ensure that you’re prepared to quickly add the layers. The chocolate and candy melts harden faster than you think! Take the extra minutes to pour out the M&M’s and sprinkles. You’ll thank me!
