Hot Ham and Cheese Sliders are the perfect kid-friendly dinner or big-batch party food that comes together quickly, easily and always is a hit.
Sliders are such a great, delicious menu option! Whether you eat them for lunch, an easy weeknight dinner, as a potluck addition or to feed a crowd, these little sandwiches are so easy to whip up!
With soft rolls stuffed with ham and melty cheese and topped with a savory mustard glaze, these are the perfect way to use up holiday leftovers (I’m looking at you, Christmas ham!), and make great game day bites too.
Kids love that they can easily hold these mini sandwiches, and I swear they taste even better the next day. This recipe is a popular choice for party sandwiches (who doesn’t love finger foods?) and go great with potato salad and pickle spears. You’ll love this easy recipe!

Ingredients Needed for Ham and Cheese Sliders with Mustard Sauce
To make these hot ham and cheese sliders, you’ll need a few simple ingredients that can be found at your local grocery store. You can also scroll to the end of the post for the full printable recipe card with all of the measurements.
- Slider buns (like Hawaiian rolls)
- Thinly sliced cooked ham
- Swiss cheese
- Mayonnaise
- Dijon mustard
- Melted butter
- Minced onion
- Poppy seeds
For this recipe I used Hawaiian slider rolls, as I love the combo of sweet with the savory ingredients. However, any slider bun or dinner rolls will work as long as they are a slab of soft rolls that are stuck together and will fit snugly in a standard size pan or casserole dish. Sweet Hawaiian rolls are just my personal favorite.
While this recipe calls for thinly sliced ham (like deli ham), you can easily use any leftover ham you might have after a holiday, too. Honey ham is a great choice.
I like to use Swiss cheese for our sliders, but any cheese that melts easily can be substituted, including cheddar cheese, Colby Jack cheese, Monterey Jack cheese, provolone cheese and Gruyere. The melted cheese is one of the best parts.
Dijon mustard is my favorite to use for a mustard glaze! It gives just the right kick, without being too spicy. You can also use a honey dijon mustard insead
I used yellow onion for the finely chopped onion in this recipe. You can also substitute white onion, or even onion powder. Red onion is too sharp of a taste for this recipe.
You can absolutely make this recipe without the poppy seeds. If you have them or can easily find them, great! But this is the one ingredient that this recipe can still taste great without, so don’t stress if you don’t have them.
How to Make Hot Ham and Cheese Sliders
These ham and cheese sliders are so easy to make!
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare the buns by slicing the entire slab of slider buns in half through the middle using a serrated knife, creating one large top piece and one large bottom half.
Spray the bottom of the dish with cooking spray, and place the bottom half in the baking dish. Spread mayonnaise on the buns, and then layer Swiss cheese, ham slices and more Swiss cheese. Cover with the top halves of the buns.
In a small bowl, mix together melted butter, Dijon mustard, minced onion and poppy seeds. Brush the glaze generously over the top of the sliders, making sure to cover them evenly.
Cover the baking dish loosely with aluminum foil and bake for 15 minutes in the preheated oven. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes, or until the tops are lightly browned and crispy.
Cut and serve the sliders while still hot and melty! They go great with potato soup with cream cheese or this Easy Twice Baked Potato Recipe.
Store leftover sliders wrapped in plastic wrap or in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
You can also freeze ham and cheese sliders! For best results, wrap the individual sandwiches in plastic wrap before freezing. You can also freeze the prepared baking dish by wrapping it really well.
If you are freezing this recipe, I recommend waiting to bake the ham and cheese sandwiches until you’re ready to serve them. Allow the dish to come to room temperature first.
I hope you love this easy ham and cheese sliders recipe!
